Having each other’s back

Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:11

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing”

When you walk onto the schoolgrounds, do you notice what you HAVE…or do you focus on what you LACK?

Gratitude changes everything! When we are grateful, we stop taking things for granted – ons vriendskappe, die geleenthede wat oor ons pad kom, ons onderwysers, die fasiliteite wat ons tot ons beskiking het en selfs die uitdagings wat oor ons pad kom wat ons help vorm om die person te word wat die HERE wil hê ons moet wees. Gratitude shifts our mindset from entitlement to appreciation, and appreciation builds character.

But gratitude isn’t just something we feel – it’s something we SHOW…and one of the clearest ways to show it is through our WORDS.

Words are powerful

They can build someone up…or tear someone down.

They can give confidence…or steal confidence.

They can create unity…or division.

In a brotherhood like ours, words matter! Sarkasme, ‘n geskinner, beledigings of grappies ten koste van ander mag dalk klein en snaaks lyk op daai stadium maar…over time they chip away at trust and belonging. And once that is gone, it’s hard to get back.

A strong brotherhood is not built by everyone being the same. Dit word gebou waneer ons aanmoedig en opbou in plaas van verneder en afbreek.

Dit vind plaas waneer ons mekaar uitdaag om beter te wees – SONDER om mekaar af te breek en sleg te sê.

Real strength isn’t found in putting someone else below you. Real strength is having the courage to lift some else up.

Imagine a school where:

We speak life into each other

We celebrate effort, not just results

We protect one another’s dignity

We choose unity over ego

Die tipe kultuur gebeur nie sommer toevallig nie. Dit vind slegs plaas waneer elkeen van ons persoonlike verandwoordelikheid neem vir ons benadering & houding, ons woorde en ons aksies.

So today, I want to challenge you with 3 things:

Be grateful for what you have – and show it!

Speak words that build, not tear down.

Protect and strengthen the brotherhood you are part of.

Want as ons kies om saam te staan, mekaar te ondersteun en op te bou, dan word ons meer as net ‘n groep individue, maar dan word ons ‘n gemeenskap…HERMIES waarna ander opkyk en wil navolg!

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for this school and the wonderful people attending this school and working at this school. Help us to be a good influence on each other, to uplift and build each other up, to add value to each other’s lives and to have each other’s back.

Help us to appreciate what we have and to live accordingly. Please be with those who are suffering because of this heavy rainfall and downpour.

AMEN
