Finding your place: Your sweet spot in School life

One of the biggest questions  every high school learner faces – whether you’re in Grade 8 or Grade 12 – is this: “Where do I fit in?”

Not everybody is going to be the top academic, the top sportsman or even the lead in the school play…and that is NOT a problem…that’s the POINT.

Because a healthy school is NOT built on a few stars – it’s built on everyone finding their place…their sweet spot!

1 Korintiërs 12:12-18 sê: “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body…They eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!”…in fact, God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.”

Dink so bietjie hieroor…

Your “sweet spot” is where three things meet:

What you enjoy

What you are good at or willing to grow in

Where you contribute to something bigger than yourself

For some of you that might be sport, for others it might be culture (music, drama, debating etc.) For others it is service, leadership or simply being someone who includes others and builds people up.

You build belonging by:

Showing up

Getting involved

Trying something – even if you are not the best at it

Because confidence doesn’t come from involvement – it comes because of it.

Also understand this: Your place might not be obvious immediately. You might try something and realise, “this isn’t for me”. That’s okay. That’s not failure, that is discovery.

The learner who quietly supports others…matter!

The one who brings energy to the practices…matters!

The one who chooses kindness over criticism…matters!

The one who commits and sticks it out…matters!

Because a school culture is NOT built by the loudest voices – it is built by consistent contribution.

Find your space. Grow into it. And then use it to make this school better. That’s what a HERMIE does! Add value to this school. This school must be better because of you!

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for all the various places we can get involved at this school. Help us to find our sweet spot…our place where we belong, so that we can have a balanced life. Help us to be there for each other and to assist and help those who are struggling.

Thank you for your love and mercy and that can know that we are good enough in your eyes…just as we are.

AMEN
