BECOMING THE RIGHT PERSON
GALATIANS 6:9-10: 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers
I heard a saying the other day…
“One of the biggest mistakes one can make is to believe that Love is finding the right person…in reality, love is about becoming the right person.” – unknown.
I am NOT talking here about romantic love…although that might be a bonus…I am talking about becoming that person who embodies the HERMIES-values. HELPFULNESS, ETHICS, RESPECT, MOTIVATION, INTEGRITY, EMPATHY and SELF-DISCIPLINE. We shot like a bullet out of a gun into leaping into excellence during the 1st term and I have to compliment you on it! We have started 2024 like a House on Fire…so much so that some of us were actually burnt out at the end of the term. Hopefully you are all motivated and ready for the 2nd term and your batteries are charged.
Soos nog ‘n aanhaling sê: “Be the difference you want to see in the world”
“There is never a right time to do the wrong thing AND there is never a wrong time to do the right thing.”
Ek wil klaar maak met ‘n laaste storie oor hoe ons na mekaar moet kyk.
They tell the story about this guy who wanted to know the difference between heaven and hell. So the Lord took him to a round table where everybody sat around a big pot of delicious soup. They all had these spoons with very long handles, so that they could NOT get the actual spoon to their own mouth. Everyone around the table was thin, very hungry, unhappy and worn out. They all just sat there drooling and waiting for better days. That was the hell. Then the Lord took him to another place with exactly the same setup. Everybody was friendly, very social and happy beyond explanation. This was heaven. So what was the difference? The guys in heaven have learned to feed each other with these long spoons they had.
We often end up choosing comfort and convenience over compassion. It’s all about working together and not about you. Serve each other.
If you can’t be effective in the ordinary things, you won’t be effective in the extraordinary things!
I have read this quote the other day. It says:
“Sometimes when I consider what tremendous consequences come from little things….I am tempted to think…there are no little things!”
Let’s be there for each other during this term in motivating and encouraging each other, but also in caring en supporting each other so that we don’t lose each other while leaping into excellence.
PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for being with us during the holidays and for allowing us to charge our batteries and for some of us, to express ourselves on the sports fields. Help us to become the right person, to be there for each other and to be an active, caring member of the Hermies family. Bless us through this term and help us to become a better version of ourselves and to be the right person, as you have planned and intended us to be, for the people in our lives. We want to pray for each one in the school, boys, girls, teaching staff and non-teaching staff…please energise us and fill us with your wisdom so that we will make the 2nd term a huge success.
AMEN
Mr MJ Smuts
