Last week: Hard Work and Perseverance pay off
Chasing excellence without losing yourself
We are living in a world that tells you: be the best…at everything. TOP grades. FIRST team. Leadership. Social life. Fitness. Popularity…and if you are not excelling everywhere, you feel like you’re falling behind.
But let’s be honest – that expectation isn’t just unrealistic…it is toxic.
Perfeksionisme (perfectionism) says: Be the best, all the time, in everything – or you are NOT enough/ Wees die beste, die heeltyd, in alles – of jy is nie voldoende nie.
Excellence builds confidence.
Perfectionism builds anxiety.
And many of you are feeling that pressure right now – quietly.
Die druk om te presteer
Die vrees om iemand teleurtestel
The anxiety of not measuring up.
You were never designed to excel at everything.
You are human, not a highlights reel
So what does healthy excellence look like?
Clarity of priorities
You cannot give 100% to everything. Choose what matters most in this season/term – and give your best there.
Effort over outcome
You can’t control results fully. You control your preparation, your attitude, your work ethic.
Dis nie ‘n mislukking nie – dis volwassenheid (streetwise).
There is a powerful reminder in Ecclesiastes 9:10 that says:
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might”
Notice – it doesn’t say everything your hand finds to do. It says whatever – the thing in front of you. The moment that you are in.
That is excellence – being fully present, fully committed, right where you are.
So as a school, let’s shift the standard: Not be he best at everything, but be your best in what matters.
No pressure.
But purpose
Geen vergelyking
Maar groei en verbetering
Because in the end, success is not about doing everything perfectly, its about becoming someone of character, resilience and consistency…and that is excellence worth chasing.
PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for all the opportunities we have in life…especially at this school. Help us to strive to do well, but to have a balanced life. Help us to be there for each other and to assist and help those who are struggling under pressure.
Thank you for your love and mercy and that can know that we are good enough in your eyes…just as we are.
AMEN
