Nuwe kwartaal, nuwe commitments en doelwitte
Welkom terug by ‘n splinternuwe kwartaal met vars en nuwe geleenthede. Dit is weereens ‘n geleentheid om teleurstellings van vroër die jaar agter te laat, te bou op suksesse van vroër die jaar en om ‘n splinternuwe hoofstuk van jou storie te skryf vir jouself en die skool. Die vraag wat jy jouself moet vra…gaan jy BETER wees as vroër in die jaar, as die 1ste helfde van die jaar, want jy hoef nie PERFEK te wees nie, net BETER!
I want to encourage each and everyone of you, to make this term count!…because everyday COUNTS, presents an opportunity to become BETER, WISER, a little bit kinder, STRONGER and a little bit more courageous than yesterday.
Now, we said new terms, new commitments…I want to remind you that we as Hermanus High School, HERMIES, are very different from most others schools in this area. We are far more than classrooms and examinations. Academic success IS important, but education is about developing the WHOLE person. Some of life’s greatest lessons are learned on the sports field, on the stage, in the debating hall, during community service projects or behind the scenes helping others.
Dit is hoekom ek elkeen van julle wat vandag hier sit wil uitdaag: RAAK BETROKKE / GET INVOLVED.
Raak betrokke by ‘n sportspan, by ‘n kultuuraktiwiteit, by die dienspilaar, skryf in vir ‘n ekspo of olimpiade. Jy gaan talente ontdek wat jy nooit geweet het jy het nie, jy gaan nuwe vriende ontmoed wat jou lewe gaan vorm en beïnvloed en jy gaan heel waarskynlik selfvertroue ontwikkel wat jy nie in ‘n boek kan leer nie.
Extramural activities teach us commitment, resilience, punctuality, teamwork, discipline, leadership and humility. They teach us how to win with GRACE and lose with DIGNITY. It also teaches us that success is rarely achieved alone.
Don’t let fear of failure stop you from discovering your potential. I want you to replace the phrase “what if I can’t” with the phrase “what if I CAN!?” There is a saying that says: “If you can dream it, you can achieve it!”
So klim van jou agterstewe af en raak betrokke en DOEN IETS vir die skool. Wees ‘n HERMIE! Jy is nie sommer net ‘n HERMIE as jy by die skool ingeskryf is nie…NEE, jy moet DEURDRENK work met die waardes, die mense, die aktiwiteite van die skool…en dan eers word jy ‘n HERMIE…en ‘n HERMIE om op TROTS te wees. Jy is of ‘n leerder wat by Hoërskool Hermanus ingeskryf is met ‘n nommer of die sisteem…of jy is ‘n HERMIE.
Don’t be THAT guy or THAT girl who does nothing for the school…and don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to be a top achiever in whatever you do, but PLEASE don’t be DEAD WEIGHT that is wearing us down. I want us to commit ourselves today to do three simple things this term:
- Show up with purpose every day!
- Get involved beyond the classroom
- Make someone else’s day a little better.
If each one of us do these 3 things consistently, this won’t just be another school term – it will be an amazing term where we convert more Hermanus High School learners into full-blooded HERMIES. Let’s up the conversion rate and get full return on our investment at this school.

Welkom terug by die plek waar ons ware HERMIES kweek. Kom ons maak hierdie ‘n onvergeetlike kwartaal…en verseker een om te onthou.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for an amazing holiday and the opportunity to switch off, relax and get the batteries charged. Thank you for the many opportunities you offer us at this awesome school. Thank you for the great people, our fellow HERMIES, the dedicated and caring staff and this wonderful place we can call our home. Help us to live with a grateful heart and to give and share YOUR love with each other, to be kind and supportive and to give each other the benefit of the doubt.
