The Lion King
There is a very well-known movie called The Lion King…The dad called Mufasa, and King of the Jungle, passes away early in the movie. He was a great King and respected, as well as feared. His son, Simba, was still young when Mufasa died and eventually was chased away and actually forgot that he was the son of The King of the Jungle, Mufasa. Simba was destined to rule the animal kingdom, but somehow lost his way in growing up and was not becoming what he was meant to be. Then his dad appeared to him in a dream and said: “Simba, you are more than what you have become!”
In a similar way, each one of YOU are more than what you have become! Do NOT be MORE aware of your mistakes or shortcomings than your potential!
Ons het so pas die toelatingsproses vir 2024 deurgewerk. ‘n Mens lees al die positiewe dinge wat die ouers en graad 7’s op die aansoekvorm invul. Goeie punte, indrukwekkende prestasies en groot beloftes en drome van ‘n ongekende 5-jaar-seisoen by Hoërskool Hermanus. Dan kom die hele klomp by die Hoërskool aan en hul paadjie loop ‘n soortgelyke roete as Simba van Lion King s’n. Hulle vergeet van al hulle potensiaal, hulle beloftes en talente wat nie ontgun is nie.
Ons is ‘n skool wat fokus op die vaslegging van waardes soos Integriteit, Respek en goeie maniere. Daarmee saam probeer ons ‘n gees en karakter van volle deelname aan die indrukwekkende buitemuurse-program kweek. Gebaseer op wat julle almal op julle aansoekvorms ingevul het laas jaar, of selfs 5 jaar gelede…is daar ‘n “Sleeping Giant” wat wag om wakker geskud te word!
There is only one way to awaken the Giant! That’s if we start to look out for each other, encourage each other, keeping each other accountable. They say the day you start living beyond yourself is when you will experience the greatest fulfilment. The really exciting news is that it is not just the School and your Parents that want you to excel and to become all you are meant to become…our powerful Creator has the following to say in Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens Iron, so one man sharpens another”
Also the lyrics from a gospel song about God watching out for us, talks about the overwhelming, never-ending reckless love of God:
There’s no shadow You won’t light up
Mountain you won’t climb up,
Coming after me!
There is no wall you won’t kick down
Lie you won’t tear down,
Coming after me.
Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, ”plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
So, it is not only your parents and the School who want you to prosper and for you to reach your full potential, the Lord wants you to prosper as well! He has deposited talents, gifts and ability into you. You have everything going for you. Academic, sport & cultural. We all want you to prosper NOW, here where you are now. Get some return on your investment. Just remember, in order to get some return on any investment, you actually have to INVEST!…in this case, invest of you time, of yourself and watch the returns!
Let’s not find ourselves having to hear the words…”so-and-so YOU are MORE than what you have become.”
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for Jeremiah 29:11 where you tell us that you have plans for us and that they are for us to PROSPER! Help us to do our part of the deal as well. Give us the drive, the energy and will-power to get involved in the many opportunities that you give to us through this great school so that we can benefit and become all that you have planned for us. AMEN
