TEAMWORK & GRIT – The golden thread of our school’s success.

Die afgelope week was ek en baie van julle betrokke by funksies waar ons vir die matrieks totsiens en dankie gesê het. Wat vir my opvalend was, is die hoeveelheid mense wat dankie gesê het aan ANDER in die skool wat hulle GEHELP het en BYGESTAAN het om die vlak van sukses te behaal, wat hulle wel behaal het. Die feit dat dit ‘n konstante tema was van uiteenlopende persoonlikhede en prestasies, hy my weereens laat besef dat ons nie ‘n eiland is nie…dat ons nie op ons eie kan funksioneer nie EN het my so bietjie aan die Springbokke se motto laat dink: “Better together” of “Stronger together”.
At the heart of most achievements in our school – whether it is on the sports field, the classroom or on the stage – runs a golden thread: teamwork and grit!
Teamwork reminds us that very few succeed alone. Every success is the result of people who support one another, who share a common goal AND who celebrate not just personal victories, but collective ones – the success of TEAMWORK.
Waneer jy aan die einde van die rugby of krieket wedstryde op TV kyk na die “man-of-the-match” of na ‘n onderhoud met die kaptein…word daar ALTYD verwys na die dankbaarheid vir die spanmaats wat gehelp het en bygedra het tot die “individu” se sukses. As sportmanne en vroue dit op die hoogste vlak besef, dink ek ons kan dit maar aanvaar as ‘n noodsaaklikheid.
Ek besef ons is nie almal ekstroverte nie en hou nie altyd daarvan om in groot groepe te funksioneer nie…en dit is okay. Besef net dat jy wel ander se insette nodig het…en nog meer belangrik, besef dat JY kan help om IEMAND ANDERS beter te maak en deel kan wees van iemand anders se ondersteuners netwerk sodat HULLE kan floreer en sukses behaal. Daar is ‘n Engelse gesegde wat sê: “Less of ME and more of WE”
When teamwork and grit are woven together, they form a fabric of a school culture that is RISILIENT, UNITED and UNSTOPPABLE. Let us continue to strengthen that golden thread – by showing up for each other, working hard, and never giving up. That is how we will continue to shine as a school.

Dear Lord Jesus, Thank you for having the opportunity to be part of this great School. Thank you for the opportunity to share experiences with many others in this school. Thank you for teaching us that we cannot function or succeed on our own, but that we need your input, support and wisdom, as well as the support of our fellow HERMIES and many others, to be the best we can be. Help us to also add value to others in order to continue making this school the great institution that it is. Amen.
