Principal’s Assembly Message 24 January 2024

Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie!

Deuteronomy 20:4 “For the Lord your God is the one that goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

After his last fight against Robert Whittaker in July 2023, he was so emotional and as an Afrikaans speaking person from Pretoria, he wanted to say something in Afrikaans…where he famously uttered the words…”Suid-Africa, Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie!” When he was asked to explain what that meant he said…it wasn’t something to be questioned but more a statement that even though we are always the underdogs with all these challenges in SA, and we don’t have what all these other big countries have…for instance state of the art facilities to train at, a functional government, proper funding for our sports, load shedding that we almost always have to factor into our daily planning…but it doesn’t matter what the challenges are, we find a way to overcome it… and people don’t know that!…that is what they don’t know…that despite all these challenges that we face on an everyday basis, and how far we are willing to go to be the best. We saw that with the Springboks winning their last 3 world cup matches by 1 point and guess what, Dricus du Plessis won his last fight by 1 point…with both the Boks and Dricus, it was pure grit, pure fight that made them win. People like to write us off and that is the worst thing you can do to a South African…and that is another thing that they don’t know! You write us off at your own peril. We are built and wired differently…we have it in our DNA and resilience is part of who we are. We are faced with hardships everyday, more than most of these modern 1st world countries…but we LOVE our country and we love our people and that is what drives us. We have that grit and that South African heart and nothing will get the better of us…and that is what they don’t know!

HERE…because YOU HAVE what it takes, because you have the mighty GOD on your side and you are proudly South African!

HULLE WEET NIE WAT ONS WEET NIE

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for every situation that you have put us in, to make us more resilient and stronger, in order to prepare us for other challenges that we may face. Like David and many other people in the bible did, we can face any gigantic challenge with confidence, because you are on our side. If you are for (and with us), who can be against us. Help us to realise who we are and the we are able and capable of anything with your help.

Thank you for this great school and all the many opportunities that we have on a daily basis. Help us to appreciate and embrace this and be good ambassadors for you and the school.
