Principal’s Assembly Message 15 October 2024

HUMILITY

James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

One of the many values at this school that we are striving to see in each and everyone of you, is humility…the ability to be humble. The opportunity to be humble is a huge privilege, because you had to achieve in order to be humble. In a school where we strive for excellence, humility is a very real thing and often not the very first thing to observe.

When we look at our Proteas and the Boks, when there are interviews with the players of the match and the captains, I am always so proud of them, because it is never about them, they are always recognising the people who helped them to achieve, there is always humility! It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be confident…but there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Arrogance is an outward display that says, look at me, look at how good I am! Confidence is an inward talk and self believe that I have what it takes to do what is necessary.

To those who have not achieved yet, but you are on the journey of becoming…of achieving, just remember…Often God’s process with you is slow, because His interest isn’t in the outcome, but in the process or journey, the day to day decisions we make on our journey, because it is there that we develop the maturity and character to enjoy and value the outcome or the success. Just remember, if somebody doubts you, it means that you are pushing boundaries they can’t imagine. In humility, keep on blazing a trail where nobody has gone!

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for another day and another week at this amazing school. Help us to live a life of humility and to appreciate every opportunity that comes our way. Help us with the week ahead and give us wisdom through the week.

AMEN
