Principal’s Assembly Message 1 October 2024

Finishing strong!

2 Chronicles 15:7 – “But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded.”

Philippians 3:14 – “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”

We are definitely in the home straight of 2024. Now I don’t know how many of you know about Athletics and the importance of what you have to do as an athlete when you enter the home straight? It’s all about setting yourself up and positioning yourself so that you can give yourself the best chance of winning the race or finishing the fasted you have ever run…long strides, digging as deep as you can and emptying the tank. That’s what you do when you come into the home straight!

We said that this last term is the home straight of an athletics race. It’s the moment where champions are made, where those who push a little harder, will stand out from the crowd. The finish line is within sight (only 4 weeks), but how we get there…matters! Finishing strong means giving your best effort, even when you are tired. It’s about proving to yourself, more than anyone else, that you can stay focussed and committed to your goals until the very end…I hope you have set some challenging, yet realistic goals?

It is easy to start thinking about the end of the year with the fun things waiting during the holidays, but remember, the work you do now will set you up for success later. The habits, the discipline and determination you show in these final weeks will carry over to next year, to future exams and even beyond school. You don’t want bad habits to set in during the last term. The worst thing that can happen (if you are not in matric yet) is for you to have become used to slowing down during the last term of the year. When do you think are you are writing your Final NSC Matric exam? During the 4th term…

Believe me when I say that the effort you put in now, will make the celebrations at the end of the year that much sweeter! Remember, how you finish says just as much about you, as how you start. Let’s finish this 4th term strong, together! May this 4th term be everything you are hoping for and may the school provide you with a safe-space, a happy-space and a place you LOVE to be at!

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for bringing us all back safely from our holidays. Please energise us and give us a positive mindset to finish this year strong! Help us to realise that this term is as important as all the other terms and that we will add value to every day of this term. Help us to serve you and each other in such a way, so that the flame of the Hermie Magic will burn stronger than ever before.

AMEN

Mr MJ Smuts
