BULLETIN 18 April 2019

DESTINATION SCHOOL                                            BESTEMMINGSKOOL

“sweat the small stuff”!

Recently I spoke about Hermanus High School becoming a Destination School. In this discussion I spoke about two things. Firstly, what is a Destination School? I believe it is a school that people want to come to and be associated with, because of our standards and what we have to offer.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, I also spoke about the role the pupils have to play in Hermanus High School becoming a Destination School. I spoke about their role because without them wanting this school to be the best possible school it can be, we can never achieve this goal. I spoke about the fact that the pupils are actually the face and voice of this school. If we are going to become a Destination School, if we are going to become a school as good as any other in the country, then our pupils will have to buy into this vision.

That is why I am asking our pupils to always represent their school in the manner that is expected of them.  It is why I am asking them to always set a high standard and to never compromise on this standard. But, more importantly than me asking them to do this, it is for them to want to do it for themselves. If we are to become the Destination School I believe we can be, this process does not start with me. It starts with our pupils. Let us all begin to “sweat the small stuff”. I think they will be surprised at just how far it will take us!

HAIRSPRAY!!!This exciting musical will be taking place on 8, 9 and 10 May 2019

Tickets are available at the bus secretary’s office @ R100pp (cash or credit card).

About 150 learners will be taking part in this fantastic production. Come and support them!!

SPESIFIEKE SAKE / SPECIFIC MATTERS

1. UITTEKEN EN AFSPRAKE

1. SIGNING OUT AND APPOINTMENTS

There seems to be a growing trend among our pupils to arrange appointments, eg doctor, dentist, learner’s and driver’s licence, during school hours. This has got to stop!

ALL appointments must be arranged after school hours or in the holidays. This applies to signing out as well – only in dire emergencies will this be allowed. The secretaries are going to be very strict regarding this in future.

2. MACBETH

The grade 10-12 drama learners had a final dress rehearsal of the play Macbeth on the 11th of April at the school.

The cast of 14 learners will be performing this production at the Shakespeare Schools’ Festival on the 13th of May at the Baxter.

The production, directed by Elenore Wilson, makes use of shadow play and the ensemble use their bodies to create scenery and special effects.
