The drama department is a vibrant component of the school.
Learners can take Drama as a component of the subject Creative Arts in Grades 8 & 9 and can continue with Dramatic Arts in grades 10-12.
Learners who take the subject visit the theatre and attend workshops on a regular basis.
In 2017 learners attended Die Woordfees and The ASSITEJ World Conference.
The Drama department produces a play every year and it is a highlight for the senior Drama students as it creates a feeling of comraderie among the learners. In 2017 a double bill was performed : Cancelled and The Seussefication of Romeo and Juliet.
In 2017 the Drama department was invited to produce a play for the annual Kalfiefees held in the De Wet Hall in Onrus River. Drought was workshopped and performed by the Grade 12 drama students. Kyknet recorded parts of the show and interviewed learners for a segment of the programme Fiesta.
Students also take part in The Overberg Eisteddfod. For the past two years learners from Hermanus High School have been the overall winners in the English Eisteddfod for Speech and Drama.

The ATKV Tienertoneel competition is held in August and any Hermanus High student can audition for a part. In 2017 Varkplaas, an adaptation of George Orwell's "Animal Farm" by Deon Opperman was performed. Deon Opperman also directed the production.
The group received the following rewards for this production:
- A bronze certificate for ensemble play,
- A bronze certificate for costumes and decor,
- Jana Smuts and Bianca Kloppers both received a silver certificate for their performances,
- George Botha received a gold certificate for his outstanding performances.
